Directed Identity vs Identifier Select - Will Norris
willnorris.com/2009/openid-directed-identity-identifier-select/
A
directed
identifier is an opaque identifier which is unique for a given
site
. The same OpenID URL is continually returned to a given consuming
site
, but no two consuming
sites
are ever given the same OpenID URL for a user.
Directed
identity protects against collusion.
Best Practices with Directed Identity - willnorris.com
willnorris.com/2009/best-practices-with-directed-identity/
This is SAML's
directed
identity. Shibboleth's implementation of persistent identifiers has matured a bit over the years, but the main algorithm remains the same. At it's simplest, the identifier is simply a hash of three things: an identifier for the user, an identifier for the identity provider, and an identifier for the relying party.
A New Kind of OpenID Proxy - Will Norris
willnorris.com/2009/a-new-kind-of-openid-proxy/
If the proxy were subpoenaed to verify if a given
directed
identifier belonged to "alice.example.org", it would be unable to do so without also knowing the user salt. And as long as the salt was not being recorded anywhere, the proxy would be completely incapable of verifying the user that an opaque identifier belonged to.
wp-openid 2.0 released - Will Norris
willnorris.com/2007/wp-openid-20-released/
Just here to test OpenID 2.0 with
directed
identity. I hope the URL that will be stored is not openid.ee but openid.ee/somethingugly Martin Paljak November 28, 2007 Nice to see that here the 2.0 specific
directed
identity feature worked like a charm. I entered openid.ee as the website URL and the comment got a really obvious Anonymous name even.
How well does your OpenID Provider stack up?
willnorris.com/2007/how-well-does-your-openid-provider-stack-up/
There are increasingly more specs in the OpenID space, and many of the extensions rely on XRDS documents to publicize support. To help enable that, I've been looking to update my yadis plugin for WordPress to automatically include the correct protocol support for the major OpenID Providers. Of course, in order to do that I have to actually find out what all protocols they supported, so I ...

WordPress OpenID v3.0 - Will Norris
willnorris.com/2008/wordpress-openid-v3/
I'm happy to announce that version 3.0 of the WordPress OpenID plugin is now available. As previously mentioned, there are a lot of new features in this release: OpenID Provider - Specific user roles can be given the capability of using the built-in OpenID provider, turning their author posts URL into a valid OpenID which can be used to login to other
sites
.
WordPress MU in a development environment - Will Norris
willnorris.com/2008/wordpress-mu-in-a-development-environment/
to apache's config. This seemed like the logical step? I am a little confused how this works since the name "wpmu" is being
directed
by my DNS, where it is defined. Where exactly am I making the change to wp.mu without renaming the machine, in the DNS? All apache is doing is running locally on the virtual server (attempting) to run MU.

I then

his attention back to my email and the the auto-attached footer which contained the link for unsubscribing. A couple more apologies and "it's okay, I understand"'s and we were bidding each other "Cheerio!" (that's England isn't it, not Australia… nevermind, then). ...
Google+ Profile Link Chrome Extension - willnorris.com
willnorris.com/2012/google-profile-link-chrome-extension/
One of the goals I set for myself this quarter was to get more familiar with the various development platforms that we support at Google. I use a number of Chrome extensions on a regular basis, and I've built a simple "Hello World" style extension before, but never anything that was all that useful.
Will & Elisabeth - About Us
willnorris.com/wedding/about
I guess our story starts in 2001 while I was at college in Atlanta, GA. I was studying computer science and had been a pretty big fan of the rock band Skillet for about a year, so I decided to setup a website about the band.
Why I'm going to Vidoop - willnorris.com
willnorris.com/2008/why-im-going-to-vidoop/
So it's not exactly news at this point, but it is indeed true that as of today I am now employed by Vidoop. This has been a few months in the making, so I figured I'd explain a little of why and how we got to this point. I've been working in the Identity Management space for a few years now.
WordPress Plugin Pet Peeve #3: Not being extensible
willnorris.com/2009/wordpress-plugin-pet-peeve-3-not-being-extensible/
So this is one that is incredibly easy to implement, and yet goes a really long way in keeping people happy with your plugin. The very reason that WordPress has a plugin API is because they know that different people want different things from their blog. Some people are satisfied with just the core functionality that WordPress provides, but most people want a little more.
iTunes 9, now with more WebKit - Will Norris
willnorris.com/2009/itunes-9-now-with-more-webkit/
As John Gruber predicted yesterday, iTunes 9 certainly uses WebKit much more than the last version. I used wireshark to do a packet trace when I clicked on the Rock Music section. Sure enough, if you gunzip the response, it is effectively standard HTML (though they do declare a custom XML namespace for everything).
